Established Policy of the Army Air Forces
Relating to the Utilization of Civil Air
Patrol Services
All Wing Commanders, Civil Air Patrol

l. The attached communication relates to a
recently established policy on tho use of Civil Air
Patrol.
~° This communication clearly sets forth
and defines the type of mission that can be performed,
and paid for from Air Force funds.
~. It further sets forth the fact that
missions may be performed for Ground Forces, but that
funds for reimbursement for such service must be providedbythe requesting organization.

Utilization of the Civil Air Patrol

i. The Chief of Air Staff has approved the following policy:
a. Requests for use of the Civil Air
Patrol, to be paid from funds appropriated for or
defended by the Army Air Forces, will be approved
only if they fulfill a mission normally performed
by the Army Air Forces, such as anti-submarine
patrol, trackLng or towing targets.
b. Requests for other types of use, such
as courier service for ground forces, should be
referred direct to the Civil Air Patrol~ and contracted and paid for by funds available to the
using force.
