I. UNIFORM
a. By authority of the War D~partment, Civil Air Patrol may wear the regular
Army uniformwith certain disiingui~hir~ features whi~1 apply to al_!lpersonnel,
officers or enlisted men, as follows:

No deviation or near substitute will be permitted. The red loop will be of size
~and shape of the regular loop on an-officer garment.
~. Sleeve emblem--The official CAP shoulder patch, bearing 3-bladed
propeller emblem of Civil Air Patrol ~zd the letters U. S., ~,ill he worn on the
left sleeve of all outer garmeuts, ½,1 below shoulder seam.
S. C_~--2~-my Officers' Overseas csp; remove pipiug and substitute red
i~, same color as shoulder loop.
b. Minimum. uniform to be p~rchased and kept in good condition by each
member shall consist of: shirt, Army Officers' typ, e, khaki or chino, ~:ith red
shoulder loops; trousers, khaki or chino, without cuffs except for women members
for whom c/~z~ottes are the official wear; bel.tt, ten web, plain brass ~ckle; shoes,
tan Oxfords, plain toes, strap and buzkle preferred to laces; socks, plain tan';
t_~le, plain t~al, no tie pin; c_~R, overseas.
~. ~ is the prescribed wear except in weather which requires outer
garments such as the regulation Officers' field jacket, leather flying jacket, or
trench coat. It is recommended that CAP units wear outer ~%rments alike, insofar
ks is possible without ~ndue expense.

d. ~io_~, Air Corps Officers~, with the sleev~ braid removed and red braid,
same color as the shoulder loops, mubstituted, and with silver CAw buttons in
place of the gold buttons. Purc,hase of blouse is optional. Its wear is recommeded
for Wing, Group, and Squadron Commanders. Members will find it more practical to
wear the field jacket or leather flying jacket.
~. Wearin~ of the uniform is required durin~ all flying missions and drills
of 0ivil Air Patrol and at such other times as ~tuit co~m_ders m~z prescribe.
Members on active duty will wear the correct uniform throughout the period of their
assignment under ~he same rules that ap~ly to Army personnel in this regard.
Unauthorized items will not be worn.
~. INSIGNIA
~. The followin~ insignia have been approved for Civil Air Patrol by the War
Department. Correct insignia will be worn on the authorized uniform at all times

Reserve, or other insignia on the CAP uniform. Discharged ~rmy personnel will

k. Civilian Wes~r--A small lapel emblem bearing the CAP Z-bladed propeller
emblem without the UoS. similar to the CAP pilot wings ms~ be worn by accredited
members not in uniform. No other insignia of the Patrol will be worn except on
full and correct CAP uniforms. CAP insignia will not be worn by members wearing
shoulder patch with U~S. The CAP insignia will not be worn or displayed on airc r a f t o r v e h i c l e s e x c e p t b y a c c r e d i t e d m e m b e r s o f C A P.

insignia will be painted or placed by decals on the wings ~nd fusel~g~ ef all
aircraft engaged in official CAP missions as follows:
_l. Wiu~s--Insignia disks shall be contorted on the top of the left wing
~and on the bottom of the right wing at a point one-third of the distance from the
wing tip to th~ fusel~e. Diometer of disk shall not exceed two-thirds of the
wing chord at point of application.
2. Fusel~--Insignia disks Bh~ll be centered on both sides of the
fuselage at a point one-third of the distnnco from the l~oding edge of tne horizontal stabilizer to the trailing edge of th~ wing. Diameter of disk shall not exceed two-thirds of the depth of fuselage at point of ap:~licatlon.
3. Use of Planes--Any aircraft while dis~laying such insignia shall
be flown exclusively by members of Civil Air Patrol. This is not tc be constra~:d
as requiring the display of CAP insignia on aircraft engaged in CAP practice
activities, or limiting participation of aircraf~ bearing insignia in ~uch
activities, or preventing aircraft with insignia from being used in non-official
fl y i n g p r o v i d e d t h e p i l o t i s a m e m b e r o f C A P.
~. Autos--Insignia may be displayed on autos, trailers, ~nd other
vehicles o~ed ~nd opero.ted b~r CAP members sad used in CAP missions. Stickers
a n d p l a t e s e m b o d y i n g i n s i g n i a s h a l l b e c i r c u l a r, f r o m 4 t o 1 2 i n c h e s i n d i a m e t e r,

m~y be used only in compliance with state laws applicable to windshield or vehicl2

_5. Omit U.S.--The U.S. is to appear on the sleeve emblem, ,~l'm bend,
and official C~2 flags, and is to be omitted from insignia for aircraft, autos,
or all other uses.
_m. Orderin~ Insignia--In purch~"sing lunifcrm and insignia items not obtelnable in retail stores, me~bers will place orders through their unit S~oply Officers.
Orders will be transmitted to the supply source by the Wing Com~ander who may
delegate this responsibility to Wing, Group, or Squadron SupplF Officers signing

n. Manufacture of CAP Insignia--Pursuant to Section 3 of Office of Civilize
Defense Regul.%tions I[o. 2, no official articles, including collar %nd cap embh~ms,
~leeve insignia, uniform buttons, aircrnft decal insignia, lapel pins pnd buttons,
arm bands, and automobile stickers and plates, may be man~actursd, sold, or
distributed by emy manufacturer without a license readily obtainable from the
Insignia Section in the Washington office of 0CD. This applies to all articles
embodying the CAP insignia (blue disk with superimposed white triangle sad with
red Z-bladed propeller superimposed on trinnglo) or any reproduction of this design
