Colonel Miller told me that he h~s never seen a civilian
o r g a n i z a t i o n p e r f a r m a s w e l l a n d f e w a r m y u n i t s h a v e p e r f o r m e d b e t t e r.
The review was ~trlctly military az~d went off in perfect shape as well
as if n~t better than many of the reviews I have seen at Army and Navy
camps and p~sta,

sam the parade were that we were as good as ~uy of the armed units
(and much better than the Militia). Our bemd led us in its own
inizitable r~auner with the drum major performing antics, the likes of
which were not equalled by ~ny other unlt in the fifteen-hour parade.
We received applause through the entire li~e of nm.rch from Chicago
Avenue to Twelfth Street. Even the reviewing stead including ~$or
K e l l y, G o v e r n o r G r e e n , G e n e r a l G n h u e r t , e n d A d m i r a l D o w n e s a p p l a u d e d
us vigorously as we p~.ssed. Upon turning off Michigan Boulevard on
Tw e l f t h S t r e e t w e p a s s e d s e v e r a l t h o u s a n d s a i l o r s f r o m N e w. P i e r w h o
m~Ae the buildings wobble with their applause. Chicago ~lows there

so proud of it that words c~n't express it.

The }~orraine Hotel meeting w~s held in two parts, the first
p a r t b e i n g w o r d s o f p r a i s e b y t h e A r. % y o f fi c e r s w h o w e r e t h e i n v i t e d
s~aests, ~fter which they departed an~i then the meeting took on the
form of a complaint session wherein ~.iI complaints were aired e.mg
ironed out. The meeting was adjourned with everyone feeling better
and un~_erst~nding more of the workings of the group.
