1. In keeping with the basic policy.of Civil Air Patrol to use

qualified men who are not eligible for duty with the armed forces, the Army
Air Forces have recently reconsidered the subject of Selective bervice
deferments of CaP personnel, and have determined that it is not desired
that deferment be granted to any person by reason of membership.or assig m e n t i n C A P,

2. This policy has also been iield to apply to the practice of
placing men in the Air Corps Enlisted uoserve, Inactive Status.
3. In view of the foregoing decisions, it is anticx^ted that

steps may be expected to be taken to cancel the deferments of those who are
presently deferred on the basis of CaP assignment, and also to call bo

^tive duty those now in the Air Corps Enlisted Reserve, Inactive Status.
A. This Headquarters realizes that this is a difficult situa

tion and that it places a heavy burden on CaP operations.

the past, we ghall continue to do everything in our power to obtair the

nece^ary replacements and to this end all unit commanders are requested
to cooperate in every way possible.

5 It is important that all unit commanders forward to this
Headquarters as soon as possible applications for active duty assi^-

ment from all available pilots, mechanics, radio tecnnicians, service-

men, and watchmen who have attained their 36th birthday or who
clarified as A-F by the Selective Service System and who ^^vaxlable
for active duty for periods of not less than 90 days. Such ajjp ica j.

should be forwarded direct to National Headquarters by airmail special
delivery as rapidly as obtained.
