STA~ARD NUMBerING FOR CIVIL AIR PATROL UNITS

I. In order to avoid duplication and confusion in the
identification and designation of tmits of the Civil Air Patrol and
thus facilitate the issuance of Operations Orders and the reporting
and recording of operations and other unit activities, it is imperative that all units of the Patrol be numbered on a nation-wlde basis,
using a simple system of numbering readily understood ~# all concerned.
To t h i s e n d , t h e f o l l o w i n g p r o c e d u r e w i l l b e f o l l o w e d .
2 . E a c h W i n g w i l l b e d e s i g n a t e d b y a t w o - fi g u r e n u m b e r. T h e
first figure will be the number of the Region (Corps Area) in which the
Wing is located. The second figure will be the serial number which has
been assigned to the corresponding State within the Region, shown in
the ascompar~fing table. Thus, the Wing in the State of Maine will be
W i n g N o . l l , w h i l e t h e W i n g i n t h e S t a t e o f Te x a s w i l l b e W i n g N o . 8 1 .
3. The Groups will be numbered serially in each Wing, beginning in each case with No. 1 and will be designated by a three or fourfigure number made up of the number of the Wing followed by this serial

4. The Squadrons will be numbered serially in each Group
beginning in each case with No. 1 and will be designated by a number
c o n s i s t i n g o f t h e G r o u p n u m b e r, a h y p h e n a n d t h e s e r i a l n u m b e r. T h u s ,
the Second Squadron of the Fourth Group in the Maine State Wing will
be Squadron No. lli-2.
5. The Flight number will be the Squadron number followed
by the letter designating the Flight. The Headquarters Flight in
S q u a d r o n N o . 11 4 - 2 w i l l b e F l i g h t N o . l l i - 2 H a n d F l i g h t A , i n t h i s
same Squadron, will be Flight No. ll4-2A.
6. Wing Commanders will immediately assign Group and
Squadron numbers in accordance with the foregoing as rapidly as units
are activated Within their Conmmnds, reporting same to these Headquarters for confirmation and entry in the official records.
