During 2016 MO-127, members of the Trail of Tears Composite Squadron participated in
the following significant events or activities:
18-20 March: Three cadets attended the Cadet Leadership School at Springfield MO.
29-30 April: The Squadron participated in Constant Watch 16, national communication exercise.
MO-127 deployed to the field and set up a radio station that operated 24 hours during the
exercise, maintaining a local VHF net and participating on the Wing HF net. Squadron members
conducted Ground Team communications training sorties Saturday during the day.
14 May: Squadron members participated along with Group II selling programs as a fund raiser a
the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show.
21 May: MO-127 Organized Cadet Orientation Flights for MO-127 and MO-151 at Malden.
MO-127 also conducted a Flight Line Marshaling school for members of both Units.
26 May: Five Squadron members participate in Illinois Wing mission number 16-M-0316, to
search for an emergency beacon on the international distress frequency. This mission was closed
with the AFRCC as 1 non-distress find.
11-12 June: MO-127 Aerospace trip to the US Space and Rocket Center at Huntsville Alabama,
along with the Veterans Memorial War Museum in Huntsville.
25 June: Squadron members participated in the Wing Wide SAREX at Ft. Leonard Wood.
9-16 July: Four Cadets attended the Missouri Wing Encampment at Ft. Leonard Wood.
8 October: Three members attended the Missouri Wing Aerospace Officers Education
Conference in Joplin.
22 October: Squadron members attended the 2016 Missouri Wing Conference.
29 October: Squadron members attend Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training
through SEMA at Malden.
5 November: MO-127 planned and executed a Ground Team field training exercise for MO-127
and MO-151 to culminate Ground Team training for the year.
AWARDS: MO-127 won awards for 2016 for 100% O Flight participation, Squadron Social
Member use of the year, and an Aerospace Excellence award. Cadet James Holland was the AFA
Squadron Cadet of the Year, Captain, Chaplain John Harth was the Missouri Wing Chaplain of
the year, and 2nd Lt. Erica Johnson was the Missouri Wing Personnel Officer of the year. Major

Darryl Spurlock was nominated for Missouri Wing Finance Officer of the Year but was not
OTHER Activities: MO-127 was extremely active in Emergency Services, with members
advancing in Ground Team, Mission Radio Operator, Flight Line CERT, and Air Crew
specialties. Additionally, MO-127 was instrumental in training personnel from MO-151 in ICUT,
Flightline Marshalling and Ground Team level 3 training. MO-127 has a very active
communications program and is one of only three MO Wing Squadrons to maintain a regularly
scheduled VHF radio net.
