Dear Prospective Cadet
We would like to thank you for your interest in finding out
more about the Civil Air Patrol and our Cadet Program.
Civil Air Patrol is a private, aviation-oriented, civilian
organization of unpaid volunteers. By federal law, Civil Air
Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. As
such, Civil Air Patrol has three mission elements-emergency services, aerospace education, and a cadet
program. You are probably wondering what this has to do
with you. The answer is, If you think about the things you
are really interested in, you may find Civil Air Patrol offers
many of them--and more.
Training
The Cadet Program helps train young men and women like
you to become the leaders of the future in whatever you
decide to do. The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program may
include, but is not limited to, flying, aerospace education,
survival skills, rescue and first aid, and radio
communications, as well as the study of navigation,
weather, and aviation. Cadets are eligible for orientation
flights in military and CAP aircraft. Many cadets will be
afforded flying experience in CAP aircraft. In addition,
cadets may compete for flying and academic scholarships
as they advance in the cadet program. Civil Air Patrol
cadets are trained in drill and ceremonies, leadership,
physical fitness, and moral development. Membership in
Civil Air Patrol does not obligate you to join any of the
United States armed forces. However, if you do elect to join
the Air Force, and have achieved the Mitchell Award, you
are eligible to start out in the advanced pay grade of E-3,
after completing Air Force Basic Training.

Activities
Frequently CAP cadets attend exciting local, national and
international activities in addition to their training programs. Some of these may include: participation in search
and rescue (including disaster relief) missions, training
and education at Air Force and other Department of
Defense installations, travel to a foreign country through
the International Air Cadet Exchange Program, attendance
at summer encampments, assisting in community events,
and more. Cadet rank, responsibility, and public recognition are also available based on your advancement within
the Civil Air Patrol.
