SUMMARY NARRATIVE OF MAJOR ACTIVITIES
Chapter I

OPERATIONS

Search and Rescue
THERE WAS AN OVERALL DECREASE IN SEACH-AND-RESCUE MISSIONS, FLIGHT
HOURS, AND FINDS FROM THE 2017-2018 YEAR. TXWNG STILL SUCCEEDED IN AN
IMPRESIVE 35 FINDS AND 1 SAVE.
Disaster Relief
HURRICAN HARVEY, A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE, HIT THE TEXAS GULF AREA ON
AUGUST 25TH, 2017. THE EVENT RESULTED IN AN UNPRECEDENT LEVEL OF
RAINFUL - APPROXIMATELY 16 INCHES PER DAY AND 33 TRILLIONS OF GALLONS
OF WATER. THE DAMAGE TO HOUSTON, CORPUS CHRISTI, ROCKPORT, AND
OTHER COASTAL COMMUNITES WAS EXTENSIOVE. THE HURRICANE HARVEY
RELIEF MISSION WAS A MOMENTOUS ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR CIVIL AIR PATROL
WHICH WAS ACHIEVED THROUGH THE ABOVE AND BEYOND EFFORST OF
HUNDREDS OF CAP VOLUNTEERS. THERE WERE VOLUNTEERS FROM FOUR
DIFFERENT REGIONS AND NHQ WORKING IN THE INCIDENT COMMAND POST
WHEN OPERATIONS STARTED. ON DAY TWO, AIRCREWS AND AIRCRAFT WERE
FLYING SORTIES FROM GREAT LAKES REGION, NORTH CENTRAL REGION,
ROCKEY MOUNTAIN REGION, AND SOUTHWEST REGION. A TOTAL OF 584
VOLUNTEERS FROM 44 DIFFERENT WINGS, REGIONS OR NHQ AND OVER 70
AIRCRAFT CONTRIBUTED IN SOME WAY OVER A FIVE- WEEK PERIOD. CAP FLEW
OVER 1700 FLYING HOURS AND DELIVERED OVER 375000 DIGITAL PHOTOS,
COVERING AN AREA THE SIZE OF INDIANA.

Counterdrug
2017-2018 WAS AN ACTIVE YEAR FOR CAP COUNTERDRUG EFFORTS. THOUGH
THERE WAS AN OVERALL DECREASE IN COUNTER-DRUG FLIGHT HOURS PERHAPS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE EXTENSIVE NEED FOR AIRCRAFT TO BE
REDIRECTED FOR THE HURRICANE HARVEY DISASTER RELIEF EFFORT - THE
EFFORTS OF TXWNG COUTNERDRUG OPERATIONS RESULTED IN 1,200LBS OF
CONFISCATED DRUGS, 27 APPREHENSIONS, AND 31 TURN-BACKS.

THE AMOUNT OF TLC CLASSES, AS WELL AS OFFERING BASIC AND
INTERMEDIATE LEVELS.
