INTRODUCTION OF UNIT STAFF AND BRIEF NARRATIVE
The Arkansas Wing has continued to support the 3 missions of Civil Air Patrol as this report will
show. The wing had an increase in our cadet membership in 2017, our aerospace program has
excelled with the growth of AEMs, and we have continued our emergency service missions
throughout the year. Arkansas Wing received a “Highly Effective” during the Compliance
Inspection in 2017.

SUMMARY NARRATIVE OF MAJOR ACTIVITIES
Chapter 1 Operations
Director of Operations.
1. The wing for 2017 did missions for AFRCC, Homeland Security, disaster support,
state support counter drug and training missions.
Director of Counterdrugs.
1. The Arkansas Wing flew missions in support of counterdrug operations in 2017.
Chapter II Aerospace Education
Director of Aerospace Education.
1. During the Compliance Inspection Aerospace Education was given a commendable for
its outstanding work in the internal and external program and received a “Highly Effective”
which was the only department during the CI that die.
Internal Aerospace Education.
1. There was a notable increase in Yeager Awards.
External Aerospace Education
1. The use of aerospace marketing educational materials, an outreach program focusing
on school districts close to units, and a proven highly effective management practices resulted in
measurable increases in the number of AE events, cadet membership, AEMs, and engagement
with external partners.
Chapter III Cadet Programs
Cadet Programs
This year seen an increase in the cadet program largely due to the Aerospace Education
Departments work with local school districts.
Cadet Activities
For the annual encampment Oklahoma and Arkansas had a joint encampment at Ft. Sill, OK.
Squadrons continued to have activities such as color guards in parades, such as the
Vietnam/Korean War Memorial Dedication, Veterans Day and one unit hosted the 3rd Annual
Girl Scouts of American “Diamonds” Women in Aviation seminar (6 female cadets and 1 male
cadet helped as instructors and hosts). Several units in the state participated in the Wreaths across
America. Orientation flights continued throughout the year for both CAP cadets and AFJROTC.

1. The following number of missions were flown in 2017:

2. Homeland Security. 2 missions were flown for Homeland Security
3. There were 47 funded and non-funded missions flown, 144 cadet orientation flights
and 36 AFJROTC cadets flown.
Director of Emergency Services
1. There were 3 disaster relief missions flown.
Director of Counterdrug Operations. There were 2 counterdrug missions flown.

Director of Aerospace Education
1. NASA Arkansas Grant Consortium increased up to $12,000 by 2017 and help fund 92
AEMs.
2. There was a 37% increase in new cadet membership due to AE targeting cadet age
school districts (from 156 to 213).
Internal Aerospace Education
1. Yeager Awards increased from 9 in 2016 to 18 in 2017.
External Aerospace Education
1. There was an increase from 1 AEM to 14 AEMs in 2017.
2. Twenty teachers throughout the state received STEM kits.
3. Twenty teachers received STEM kits.
4. During the AE Conference 20 students from Title 1 schools attended.

1. Cadet membership grew by 37%, 156 to 213 in 2017. Arkansas Wing joined the
Oklahoma Wing for a joint encampment.
2. There were 144 orientation rides done for cadets.

Cadet Conference. No cadet conference was held.
Region Cadet Leadership School (RCLS). No RCLS was held in Arkansas.
Cadet Honor Academy (CHA). No CHA was held in Arkansas.
Wing Cadet Competition. Arkansas Wing did not hold a cadet competition.
