OPERATIONS

Search and Rescue
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS HOSTED ONE SAR TRAINING MISSION AND TWO BIVOUACS
DURING 2017. THEY HAVE 8 CADETS TRAINING FOR GROUND TEAM MEMBER,
THREE SENIOR MEMBERS TRAINING FOR GROUND TEAM LEADERS. FOUR
SENIOR MEMBERS AND ONE CADET ARE TRAINING FOR MISSION RADIO
OPERATOR WITH ONE SENIOR MEMBER MISSION CERTIFIED. FOUR SENIOR
MEMBERS TRAINED FOR THE AERONAUTICAL RATING OF SCANNER WITH ONE
MISSION CERTIFIED. TWO CADETS AND THREE SENIOR MEMBERS AS CERT
CERTIFIED. FOUR CADETS COMPLETED THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Unit History Summary Excelsior Springs Composite Squadron
MO-161
As 2017 began, the Excelsior Springs unit was but a nebula of a squadron.
The unit actually was formed a year prior with a small, but committed core of four
senior members and one cadet. Everyone was initially assigned to the Group level
pending enough members to reach unit status.
The Excelsior Springs Senior Members knew that if they grew to quickly they would
not have the infrastructure to support and retain new members. The four Seniors began
by learning, to enable them to teach their new members.
By July 2017 their numbers had grown and effective August 26, 2017 they officially
became the Excelsior Springs Composite Squadron. ESCS was Missouri Wings only
new squadron during 2017. At the end of 2017 the unit’s membership showed 9 Seniors
and 10 cadets.

Two of the unit's Senior Members attended the 2017 Missouri Wing Conference
Mission training
Eight of the unit's Cadets are actively training for Ground Team Member 3 positions.
Three of the unit's Seniors are actively training for Ground Team Leader positions
Four of the unit's Senior Members and one Cadet are either trained or in training for
Mission Radio Operator and mission Administrative positions
Four Senior Members completed training for the mission aeronautical rating of Scanner.
One is mission rated.
Two of the unit's Cadets and three Senior Members completed CERT training
Four Cadets completed the American Heart Association CPR training
Excelsior Springs hosted one SAR training mission and two bivouacs during 2017.
Group Operations Support
The Excelsior Springs Composite Squadron is the Net Control Station for the Group I
VHF Radio net and once the antenna is installed will be a regular participant of the
Wing/Region HF radio net.
Recruiting and Retention
The unit held two Open Houses, one pancake breakfast and one chili cookoff during 2017
The unit is currently working with one School District in support of the ACE/STEM
programs
Public presentations were made to six Home School organizations
Excelsior Springs Composite Squadron retained 100% of their members during 2017.
