MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD
FROM COMMANDER
SUBJECT: Wing History Approval
1. During CY 2016 Kansas Wing conducted a change of command from Col Rickey Franz to Col Linette
Lahan at the Kansas Wing Conference conducted in Wichita, 28 May, 2016
2. Kansas Wing was unable to participate in Constant Watch 16 due to electrical storms.
3. The Flint Hills Composite Squadron established a detachment in Manhattan, KS with the goal to
mentor the assigned Commander, Deputy of Seniors as the incoming commander when the detachment
charters. The detachment would be responsible for a location for their meeting, recruiting members, and
filling positions like a squadron. They are mentored by the Flint Hills Composite Squadron members
until a date that a Staff Assistant Visit is conducted by the Subordinate Unit Inspection team.

PLANT EXPLOSION IN NEODESHA.

COULD PROVIDE TO/FOR THE STATE.

HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED.
Chapter II

AEROSPACE EDUCATION

Internal Aerospace Education

CONJUNCTION WITH INTRODUCING THE RASPBERRY PI STEM KIT TO SQUADRON
AEOS. ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE CONFERENCE WERE THE QUADCOPTER STEM

Chapter III

CADET PROGRAMS

Cadet Programs
THE SCHEDULED ENCAMPMENT FROM 26 DEC 2015 THROUGH 2 JAN 2016 WAS
CANCELLED DUE TO A VERIFIED TERRORIST THREAT. THIS CAUSED MANY
CADETS TO ATTEND ENCAMPMENT IN OTHER WINGS DURING THE SUMMER
MONTHS. THIS DID NOT HINDER CADETS FROM APPLYING AND ATTENDING
NCSAS AS MANY OF THE CADETS AFFECTED BY THE CANCELLATION WERE TOO
YOUNG TO ATTEND THE DESIRED NCSA OF NBB. CADETS STILL ATTENDED
MARC, NESA, CYBER ACADEMY, FLIGHT ACADEMY, AS WELL AS NBB. DUE TO
THE CANCELLATION OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S ENCAMPMENT, THE WINTER
ENCAMPMENT CONDUCTED 26 DEC 2016 TO 2 JAN 2017 WAS HELD ON FORT
RILEY, KS. WE HAD EXCELLENT SUPPORT FROM GARRISON WITH TOURS OF THE
COMBAT AVIATION BRIGADE, UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS, KANSAS
NATIONAL GUARD BLACKHAWK ORIENTATION RIDES, AND OFF-POST SUPPORT
FROM THE LOCAL INDOOR SHOOTING RANGE TO CONDUCT THE FAVORITE
NATIONAL MARKSMANSHIP ASSOCIATION'S MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM.
Cadet Activities
CADETS PARTICIPATED IN THE NRA MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM IN VARIOUS
LOCATIONS ACROSS THE WING. THEY ALSO PARTICIPATED OR OBSERVED THE
NCR CADET ADVISORY COUNCIL METING THAT WAS HELD AT THE WING
CONFERENCE IN WICHITA, KS. CADETS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE VETERANS
DAY PARADE IN EMPORIA, KS WHERE VETERANS DAY ORIGINATED. THEY
POSTED A SENTINEL GUARD AT THE MEMORIAL DURING THE EVENTS.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VETERANS DAY ACTIVITIES, THE CADETS
PARTICIPATED IN THE LAST WING-WIDE SAREX OF THE YEAR. SIXTY PERCENT
OF THE SQUADRONS' CADETS PARTICIPATED DURING THE WREATHS ACROSS
AMERICA THROUGH THE STATE CEMETARIES.
Drug Demand Reduction
WHILE THE WING HAD NO DDR OFFICER ASSIGNED, MANY SQUADRONS
PARTICIPATED IN DDR. THE ISSUE CAME AS MANY OF THEM DID NOT REPORT
THEIR DDR ACTIVITIES.
